Christmas Giving Project-2004
at
Haslett Community Church

The Christmas giving project was started in 1985 to help those in need in the Haslett area. Our mission is to provide food and Christmas presents to families in the area who otherwise might go without during the holiday season. This year, 114 families’ were helped. Photos below show how this project was implemented.  Click on small images below to enlarge photos.

HCC's sanctuary was used to group like food products together.

Over 400 boxes were needed to box up each of the 114 recipient families food supplies. Most of the families had a couple of boxes of gifts and treats to complete their holiday.

Instructions were given to HCC volunteers on how to process each family’s food order. Families received food for a nice Christmas meal, extra food for 7-10 days, plus several Christmas gifts for each family member and specifically selected for each individual.
Parents were interviewed to determine the children’s needs and gifts provided for all 209 children. Most recipients received jeans, socks, underwear and something for fun. At least 70 adults and children received winter jackets, hats and gloves.

Using green “order” sheets, volunteers selected and boxed food for each family using a “packing list” for a family based on its size. Foods were selected for the 114 families.

Beginning in Fellowship Hall with family number 1, each family’s boxed food and gifts were grouped together. The boxed groupings continued into the sanctuary, winding back and forth ending with family number 114’s boxes and gifts.

Space required for the gifts was so great that even the chancel and choir pews were used for the marshalling of boxes.

Once each family had finished receiving their gifts, they were given the opportunity to pick out additional second-hand clothing items and select from a stuffed animal table.
