Youth Ministry
Let no one despise your youth,
but be an example to the believers
in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12 RSV
Haslett Community Church offers many fine programs and activities for both
Junior and Senior high youth. Each program is offered separately with many
opportunities that bring our youth groups together. Look over each of the areas
below to learn more about activities, schedules and related information.
Junior and Senior High students are welcome to come, question, seek, and find
your faith in a safe and caring place. You will learn more about yourself, more
about the world and more about God. We hope that you will find and deepen your
relationship with God, strengthening your faith and in the process find ways to
help the community.
We provide opportunities for service, learning, good times with friends, chances
to make new friends, and times of spiritual growth and reflection. If you have
any questions or are interested in getting involved, call the church
office at (517) 339-8383 .
Senior High
Our senior high youth group meets each Sunday evening from
7:00-8:45 p.m. Sunday evening fellowship includes free time, a brief worship
service, group discussion, service projects, and more. Our youth room is set up
with sofas, tables and chairs to make our group more relaxing and comfortable.
In addition to our Sunday evening program, senior high youth are also invited to
participate in five basic areas of our church's life: worship, explorations of
faith, ministry within the congregation, service to our local community and
wider world, and fellowship.
Around the end of July our youth and some of the congregation's adults go on
week-long outreach trips. They have served at sites that include: Pine Ridge
Indian reservation in South Dakota (2005); Sault Ste. Marie, MI (2004);
Montreal, Ontario, Canada (2003); Lansing, MI (2002); White River, AZ (2001);
Benton Harbor, MI (2000); Cedartown, GA (1999); and in Haslett when the need is
presented to them.
On Sundays before our youth meetings, our ninth graders are invited to our
Confirmation class. Confirmation is the process of preparing for adult church
membership, and involves 20 weeks (November to May) of intensive study,
projects, discussions and presentations.
Junior High
Our Junior High youth group meets Tuesday evenings from
7:00-8:15pm. Tuesday evening fellowship includes free time, devotions, group
discussion, group games, service projects, and more. Our youth room is set up
with sofas, tables and chairs to make our group more relaxing and comfortable.
In addition to our Tuesday evening meetings, the Junior High schoolers also have
special events throughout the year. These events are a fall lock-in, a winter
retreat, movies nights, and much more.
Additional educational opportunities are available at Sunday School, which is
held in the youth room every Sunday morning at 9:30 AM during the school year.
Youth Choir
All youth who enjoy music are welcomed to participate in
the 2:30 PM Thursday After School Music Program. The director, Judy Connelly,
welcomes all types of musical formats - both voice and instrumental. At times
the Youth Choir provides special music during Sunday morning worship. In early
spring the combined choirs of the church present a musical.
