|Haslett Community Church Staff|
|Rev. Kurt Kirchoff, Pastor
After graduating from seminary at Pacific School of Religion, Kurt worked as a floor layer for four years and a high school religion teacher for eight years before entering the ministry in 1992. He served as Associate Minister at Central Congregational Church - United Church of Christ in Providence, Rhode Island for five years before being called to serve as pastor and teacher at Haslett Community Church United Church of Christ.
Kurt treasures the care and support of the people of HCC, the rich variety of his pastoral work here, and the special pleasures of preaching and leading adult education groups. He's also a lifelong and ardent fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
|Judy Connelly, Choral Director
After attending high school on the University of Michigan campus, Judy attended Albion College where she majored in music education. Hired in 1959 by the Haslett School District to teach music, she was excited to become part of the choir at HCC. The teaching career was interrupted by the arrival of four children but the choir singing continued, adding as well, the directorship of the children's choirs. In 1968, as she was about to resume graduate studies in voice at Michigan State University, there was a sudden vacancy in the choir director position at HCC. She volunteered to take over for a month until the congregation could find someone. This temporary position has extended now for over 35 years! In 1972 Judy returned to the elementary music classrooms at both Wilkshire and Ralya schools in Haslett and she retired from there in 1998.
"Making music with enthusiastic adults, children and youth is a great joy. So many wonderful people are willing to share their time and talent as the choirs lead in worship here at Haslett Community Church."
|Barbara Freeman, Organist/Pianist
Barbara is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio and the University of Illinois where at all times her musical interest has been music composition and theory: why and how music affects us as it does. She has taught piano and played in restaurants for many years, living around the country before "alighting" in the Haslett area in 1995 with her husband and son. Though her past musical experiences are varied, Barbara feels she has found her musical calling in music-making in churches. This is especially true at HCC where musical creativity has a chance to grow through numerous musical genres such as traditional, praise and gospel music. She joined the staff in June of 2001.
|Erin Heisler, Ministry for Youth and
A Haslett High School alum, Erin is excited to be returning to this wonderful community where she grew up. After graduating from Central Michigan University (Go Chippewas!), Erin studied for four years at Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey where she obtained a Masters of Divinity as well as a Masters of Arts in Youth Ministry. Now an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, Erin is very excited about the opportunity to work with the children and the youth of Haslett Community Church.
|Susan Witkus, Children's Sunday Morning Leader
Susan moved to Haslett from Massachusetts during the spring of 2007 to be closer to her family. She is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a Master of Education and a B.S. in mathematics. She is a twelve-year veteran of teaching high school in both public and private schools. Her teaching career was interrupted by the joyous arrival of her son in 2002 and then her beautiful daughter was born in 2004. Since then, Susan has been blessed to be able to be home with her children.
Church has always been an important part of Susan's life. She is excited about using her skills as a teacher and as a parent to serve the children of Haslett Community Church. She looks forward to working with the congregation and especially our children. Susan says, "Children are a precious resource with which I treat with respect, kindness and love."
|Beverly Wegener, Office Manager
|Wayne Mason, Office Production Assistant
After graduating from Concord High School in Elkhart, Indiana, Wayne attended Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana, graduating from the Drafting and Design program in 1964. Immediately out of Tri-State, Wayne hired into the Oldsmobile Division of GM in Lansing, Michigan as a technical illustrator in the Product Engineering department. Over the years, as technology changed, Wayne took numerous computer classes at LCC and received an Associate Degree in 1982. After more than 37 years with GM, Wayne retired in 2001.
When the Office Production Assistant job opened at Haslett in January 2002, Wayne thought it would be a good avenue to apply his years of GM/LCC computer training. Wayne's typical schedule at HCC has him working two mornings per week. Responsibilities include creating, maintaining and updating HCC's web site, assembling the monthly newsletter, HCC Connections, maintaining the church member database, and maintaining HCC's office computers and network.
